WELLBEING

GB - 1ST COMMANDMENT is “STAY FIT & WELL ”. To become ill on your travels puts you at risk &could spoil a well-planned adventure, so good health is vital. So all “GB's” should have an ANNUAL HEALTH CHECK or MOT (Medical Order Test) like UK motor vehicles, which legally require an extensive test after only 3 years old. Get along to your Medical Centre, therefore, with the following GB Check List for Men, Ladies please devise your own, & get checked out. Make sure you get the actual test results, not just “ok or satisfactory”, then use Internet to check out what they mean

PERSONAL SECURITY

GB 2ND COMMANDMENT is “GET AWAY FROM TROUBLE”. An emergency survival plan needs to be thought out in advance with a firm philosophy. All Backpacker's are easily identified as a target when in transit with full kit in view so “Keep in the Mainstream” & “Spread your Finances"

GB recommends the following actions to try & “Repel Unwanted Attention” :

1. Keep a WHISTLE in your pocket & if you get into a difficult situation use it to make a disturbance & attract attention & hopefully deter offenders.

2. Carry a fold up MINI UMBRELLA in your Day Pack (best with a hook handle to keep a better hold) which, can be very useful as a defence weapon also useful for wet & hot weather

3.Carry a “CON CON” , a nominal amount of cash currency in a clear plastic wallet & keep it handy in an open pocket. In a direct situation you can offer it over to get away & a pickpocket could take it & leave you alone.

4. In your Day Pack carry a DEODERANT SPRAY for more serious confrontations & use it by spraying it in the eyes of the attacker to allow you to escape.

5.In any attack situation you must also assume that the person has a knife etc. so try & keep your distance & use your BACKPACK as a barrier. In this extreme position you may have to give it away to get away.
