OSMOTHERLEY - STAY FOR LESS "££"

OSMOTHERLEY is a typical North Yorkshire Moors Village, named as far back as William the Conqueror's Doomsday Book of 1086, then Asmundrelac. It's present name has a mythical Anglo Saxon origin when the Soothsayer of a tribal King foresaw the death of his new son Oswald on a certain day. On this day his Mother took the boy to the top of the highest local mountain, Roseberry Topping to save him but she went to sleep. When she awoke her son was missing & found drowned in a nearby pool; later he was buried in the Village, thus the name given to the settlement “Osmund by his Mother lay”. Today the Village, located on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, is a magnet for country lovers, from the vast Teesside Industrial area & others, especially at weekends & has many delightful passageways to explore & country walks to enjoy.
