NIAGARA FALLS is the “Icon” landmark of CANADA & its top tourist destination. The majestic Niagara River Gorge, from the Iroquios word “Onguiaahra” meaning “The Straight”, is formed from the outflow from Lake Erie (& Lakes Huron , Superior & Michigan beyond) into Lake Ontario a difference in water levels of 99 metres. The Canadian Horseshoe Falls & the American Falls themselves plummet 56 metres with the River also forming the border between the USA & CANADA . The Falls are truly one of the Natural Wonders of the World & the stories of daredevils who went over the Horseshoe torrents are part of the folklore – check them out!
