LIVERPOOL
is found on the North West Coast of England, on the estuary of the
River Mersey, known as the birthplace of the greatest rock &
roll music group the "BEATLES" - John (Winston Lennon)
Sir Paul (James McCartney) George (Harrison) Ringo (Richard Starkey
- Starr). There are many experiences & places to be seen linked
to the lives of the Beatles in & around the City but Liverpool
has many facets. It has many links with the sea from the 18thC emigration
to America to the industrial revolution world trade. The current
day passion is for football with the 2 Premier teams, Liverpool
FC & Everton FC. GB gives the deal which will "Please,
Please You, Yeah!"
ACCOMMODATION
No
1 - Liverpool YHA,
25 Tabley Street, Off Wapping. L1 8EE (a new hostel in its own
secure area, close to the River & the regenerated docks area)
tele 0870 770 5924, Email: liverpool@yha.org.uk
- £18.50 pn. b & full English breakfast - 100 beds (
3, 4 & 6 bedded rooms, all en suite) Excellent self - catering
kitchen (utensils & microwave) & self serve café
area for breaks. & evening meals. Open plan reception linked
to comfy TV lounge & information area. It's a good hostel
for meeting world travellers, usually en route for Ireland &
the Beatles décor really gets you into the "rock n
roll" mood.
FOOD
for self caterers is not easy to find on the hostels river frontage
locality but GB did locate a supermarket on Hanover Street about
a mile away, but look carefully as its below ground level. For restaurants
& cafes the choice is unlimited & the hostel itself serves
good value evening meals. Oh! before I forget there's an interesting
pub/ café next to the hostel which, through the window serves
good grub, try it out for me.
TRAVELLING
AROUND the City is best on foot as there are many side
streets & alleyways which form the real character of Liverpool,
the Mathew Street area being one, which are a must to seek out.
For trips out of town to seek out the Beatles sites, however, there
is a comprehensive local bus service so all you need is the essential
route map from the Info Centre located in the central Williamson
Square.
