SWISS JUNGFRAU REGION - STAY FOR LESS "CHF"

JUNGFRAU REGION in the central Bernese Oberland is the most spectacular scenic area in Switzerland with dramatic Valleys & majestic Mountains all around. The GB special "JUNGFRAU TRAIL” bypasses Interlaken & starts directly in LAUTERBRUNNEN with its sheer cliff/waterfalls Valley then up to the spectacular Cliff Top Villages of GRIMMELWALD & MURREN with the SHILTHORN peak above. Returning to the Valley floor take the Cog Train up to WENGEN on the opposite Valley side & after re stocking up with provisions its upward again to the pinnacle of the journey & KLIENE SCHEIDEGG Station at the foot of the mega EIGER, MONCH and JUNGFRAU Mountains. From here you've the chance go by special Rack Train to the “Top of Europe'' Observatory before descending to the popular Resort of GRINDELWALD then returning to Interlarken for onward travels.

NO l - MOUNTAIN HOSTEL, 3826 Gimmelwald (take the Gondola lift from Stechelburg 4485ft onto the cliff top & you will see the Hostel nearby) tele 33 855 17 04 – www.mountainhostel.com – 23 chf in large Boys or Girls'' dorms & good shower/washroom on ground floor with laundry/ drying room. Ideal self service kitchen & great living/eating room with Piano & “Free'' Internet station. Cosy Bar, serving drinks & hot food & adjacent pool/reading room. This is very special Hostel as the best is outside with a wooden patio looking over the most spectacular mountain views - wow! also a hot tub for trendy's.

NO l - OLD LODGE, 3823 Wengen (a short way from the Rail Station, head for the Coop Supermarket & it's just around the comer) tele 33 855 1573 – www.oldlodge.ch - 25 chf dorm & separate showers & washrooms. Large self-catering/dining kitchen on ground floor with quality equipment. Adjacent Iounge/ TV room (needs a Piano!) & quiet games/information entrance room. Well managed Hostel in centre of the Village with spacious grounds to rest out.

NO 1 - ROSTIZZERIA LODGE, 3801 Klienescheidegg (as soon as you get off Train you're here) tele 33 828 7 828 – www.roestizza.ch - 50 chf, incl super buffet breakfast, in roof dorms with showers/washrooms down corridor. No self- catering facilities so be prepared or use restaurant downstairs. This is a “ must stay'' location from the busy daily tourist abilities to the absolute tranquility when all the visitors & most workers return to the valley's below - perfect!

No 1 - DOWNTOWN LODGE, 3818 Grindelwald (from the Rail Station it's East along Main street, pass the Sports Centre, then 100 meters turn right) tele 33 853 08 25 – www.downtown-lodge.ch - 29 chf for bed in large dorm with separate showers & washrooms. Small self-catering kitchen with eating area in large adjacent Iounge/TV/games room. A meals service is also provided in front Reception cafe area & laundry facilities. Basic but a well managed cluster of buildings in the Centre of this popular tourist Town, main Lodge best Room2.

FOOD is available in the well provisioned COOP Supermarkets at Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Wengen & Grindelwald & also good value especially the “Prix'' bars of Swiss Chocolate for only 45c a favourite GB energy treat.

TRAVELLING AROUND on GB's Trail is part of the adventure with fast/smooth Trains to Interlaken, changing to the Cog Train to Lauterbrunnen. Then walk the back Valley road to the Cable Car near Stechelberg to take the Gondola to the Cliff top also Ski Lifts & Funiculars are available. New GB Policy “Take any form of transport up Swiss Mountains & walk down'' (GB used the local Refuse Truck one day to get up to Murren) To Wengen, KS it's by Cog Train again to KS but GB walked “down'' to Grindelwald passing the mighty Eiger Wall
