| CAMBRIDGE - STAY FOR LESS "£££" |
|
CAMBRIDGE is located on the Southern edge of the East Anglia Fens (reclaimed marshlands) an area of low land which is no more than 50 ft above sea level & where the an icy East wind blows straight from the Steppes of Russia. The Romans established a camp here in the 1 st C & then the Anglo Saxons came to establish a prosperous Town due to the fact that the River Cam was navigable to the North Sea . The Colleges grew in the 12 th C after King Harold 2's quarrel with the French in 1167 & the subsequent expelling of English students from Paris who then re located in Oxford . Due to further quarrels with the Oxford townsfolk a number of students fled in 1209 & settled in Cambridge where there must have been famous teachers. The First College was Peterhouse in 1284
