CAIRO is Egypt 's modern Capital, founded by the Tunisian Fatimads 969 AD in the River Nile Delta. This mighty City is near the Old City of Memphis & the Worlds last remaining Ancient Wonders of the World – The Pyramids - at Giza . These Tombs represent the pinnacle of an Egyptian Civilisation, which ruled from King Narmer around 3100BC to 525BC when the Persians invaded followed by many other conquering Nations until 1952 when Egypt became an Independent Republic .

FOOD & DRINK, the most important being WATER, which can be bought at the Hotel for £E10 or bartered to £E10 for 3 x 1.5 litre DELTA bottles from street (fridge cabinet) sellers locally (check caps sealed). Food is excellent from Hotel Restaurant but for snacks & light meals take own Crisp bread, Noodles & Porridge & use room kettle to boil water & serve. Also room tap water good to drink after boiling & cooling in fridge bar. Fruit to peel can be bought in Cairo Streets e.g. 8 x Limes for £E1
TRAVELLING AROUND from Cairo Airport Term. 2 to Cairo get transfer bus to Term. 1 & walk across Car Park to Bus Station to get #356 (P07) into Central Cairo . It stops at a Station behind Egypt Museum, then walk to outside Security Entrance to Egypt Museum & hand stop #357 (P0V) to travel down Pyramids Road (El Haram Street) then right up to Remaya Square Roundabout on Feysal Street & get off – Sphinx Hotel is here! These Busses only cost £E2 (plus 50p for backpack) are Air Conditioned & give a limited but interesting views on journey, unlike Taxis. Sit near front to get out easily as they fill up fast & exit difficult. To get back into Cairo walk to Pyramids Road Roundabout with Pyramids Entrance Road where #357 parks to start its route into the City (easy to get on) then hail the Driver when you see the Pink Egyptian Museum to get off – good luck! Taxis are around £E40 (bartered) for each journey & £E115 from Hotel to Airport direct. Mini Busses parked near Pyramids Road & Maryotteya Canal will take you South to Saqqara & back.
