GLEBE INFANT SCHOOL AND UNIT FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED OFSTED REPORT

In February 2004 we underwent a successful OFSTED Inspection under the new framework. This was our third inspection and the second one since I have been Headteacher. The new framework is very different to the previous one and it soon became apparent the Governing Body in particular needed training. I enlisted Governor services for this training which was very successful and I would have no hesistation in recommending this to other schools. Our school Development Adviser led staff training and, of course we also had a number of staff meetings to ensure that we were all prepared as possible.

We had decided in September that to embrace the Primary strategy and continued teaching in the way which suited us. On the whole I think we found the experience positive and the team leader did listen to any concerns which I raised with him. Like most Headteacher's I felt I had to fight our conrner quite hard but I must say we were listened to, and some judgements were changed.

As a staff we were very pleased with our final report and I think all staff would agree that it was an experience worth going through. It certainly strengthens staff relationships and it is that outside validation of good practice which is nice to have; however, it did not tell us anything which we did not already know. Even with a good report staff were still very tired after the experience and it took about half a term for people to really get back to the pace they taught pre-Ofsted.

Needless to say, having got used to the changes which the new framework has brought, it looks like we are heading for yet another system which will be just a phone call away!
